Sheep/Goat Puppet

for Chinese New Year 2015

Director of Puppetry - Oliver James Hymans

Presented at The National Gallery, London, 2015

Puppet participation project for The National Gallery's Chinese New Year celebration 2015 celebrating the year of the sheep / ram / goat.

Oliver created a giant puppet made from a sculpted cardboard head and base, with the overall form inspired by traditional Chinese Dragon / Lion puppets used in celebrations and dances. The body of the puppet was constructed from hundreds of paper plates which were adorned with drawings of sheep, goats and rams from the gallery's collections, drawn by the young participants on the day.

The final creation was paraded around the National Gallery led by a classical chinese flute musician
